President’s Message

Dear colleagues,

It is with great pleasure we welcome you to the 16th European Plastic Surgery Research Council (EPSRC) to be held August 21st-23rd 2025 in Utrecht, the Netherlands. The EPSRC was founded as a nonprofit organization in 2009 by and for the benefit of the young plastic and reconstructive research community in Europe. The EPSRC developed from the concept of the Plastic Surgery Research Council (PSRC) organized in North America. The EPSRC focusses on European participation with an emphasis on early career plastic surgeons. Last year the first International Plastic Surgery Research Council (IPSRC) was established and held in Tokyo.

The EPSRC which is organized and held in Europe is one of the main scientific plastic surgical bridges between Europe, the United States, Asia and the rest of the World. We have had exceedingly successful past meetings with outstanding international participation. In 2025 we intend to raise the level of scientific excellence to even a higher level. The EPSRC has a partnership with the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (PRS) and they will publish accepted long oral presentations of this year’s meeting in PRS Global Open.

The scientific committee will review and select long and short oral presentations that will constitute a diverse and outstanding scientific program on novel research and clinical advances in plastic surgery. Topics range from reconstructive microsurgery, nerve reconstruction, hand, oncology, wound healing and basic experimental research subjects including nanotechnology and recent developments in stem cell biology relevant to plastic surgery. The session moderators will vote for the best long and short oral presentations and awards will be presented at the closing ceremony.

We are pleased to have industry participation with on site demonstrations of a number of new products. In 2025 we again intend to discuss the relevant advances in plastic surgery including extremity reconstruction, perforator flaps and this years' focus on microsurgery, robotic assisted microsurgery and supermicrosurgery, lymphatic reconstruction and microsurgical education and training. Presentations will focus on the newest topics in plastic surgery (clinically and scientifically) and each session will be introduced and moderated by an expert in the field.

We are honored to have a number of distinguished keynote speakers who will provide expert information in plenary talks. I would like to express my deepest appreciation and thanks to my dear colleague David Krijgh on his outstanding effort in organizing the EPSRC in 2025. Last, but not least, I would like to acknowledge the scientific advisory board and David and his team for their dedicated and invaluable work on the meeting planning and organization. Their efforts will most assuredly make this year’s meeting a success.

This years’ EPSRC in Utrecht will certainly provide for outstanding scientific interactions in a relaxing environment to develop important international collaborations and establish new friendships in the field.

I am pleased to welcome you in Utrecht in August 2025 and we will have an exciting scientific journey!

Christine Radtke MD, PhD
